Remote network connections/VPN

Getting your Eduroam Password/Token:

1.1 Go to https://tokens.uis.cam.ac.uk

1.2 For Username & Description type “vpn”

1.3 Click Create

1.4 Note down the “username” and “password” (or copy and paste them into a file). You will only get to see this once. If for some reason you miss or lose it, click Reset on the vpn entry from the list and re-create it.

You can access internal University systems through the UIS VPN service. For full instructions any for other Operating Systems visit :

Alternatively, if you’d rather not follow the UIS instructions above, try the following (Windows 10 only):

2.1 Download this file : (Use your email address and raven password to access, not a personal gmail account):

Cambridge VPN.ps1

2.2 Navigate to the file you downloaded (probably in “Downloads”), right-click it and select “Run with Powershell”

2.3 Ignore any errors that may appear but click “Yes” to Install the certificate when the pop up appears.

If the screen stays blue/blank, just click <enter> one more time.

2.4 If successful you shouldn't see anything on the screen. Occasionally a message about certificates pop ups, which is fine.

3.1 In the Cortana Search box (bottom left) Type “VPN” and press Enter

3.2 Click on Cambridge VPN option and then Connect

3.3 Type in the email address obtained above (E.g. sqpr1+vpn@cam.ac.uk) and the Eduroam token you obtained above in Step 1.4.

3.4 Click OK. VPN should connect (Essentially this makes your PC part of the University Network now)

If you see this error when connecting VPN  you may have to re-create the connection, however that's not always the case and simply trying to connect a few times is sometimes enough to resolve.

4.1 Search and Run  “Network Status” (bottom left)

4.2 Click Change Adapter Options (roughly in the centre of window)

4.3 Right-click and Drag “Cambridge VPN”to your desktop

4.4 Select “Create Shortcuts here”
